Pressureless sintering of silicon carbide armors

In virtue of the characteristics such as high hardness, small specific gravity, fine ballistic performance, absorbing more energy in fragmentation and lower price, pressureless sintering of silicon carbide ceramics are widely used in armors on a large scale in no too thick and no overweight occasions, such as vehicles, ships, safe and cash truck. Its ballistic performance is superior to alumina ceramic and is about 70%—80% of boron carbide ceramic. As bulletproof armor materials with high strength and good toughness, pressureless sintering of silicon carbide ceramic has a good performance of resistance to repeated blows. Used for cylindrical ceramic light protective armor with breaking point to 6.5 tons, its protective effect is better than that of ordinary silicon carbide ceramic.
